Cape Cod Challenger Club
The Cape Cod Challenger Club’s origins date back to 2005 as a “Challenger Division” of Little League. In that first year some enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers organized a handful of very excited children and their parents to play baseball for six memorable Sunday afternoons. At the conclusion of that first season the parents commented on how wonderful the program was and how they wished it could last longer.
Right away, the organizers of that first program, husband and wife Kelvin Ing and Amy Lipkind, who have no special needs children of their own, decided that the families did deserve more. They incorporated the Cape Cod Challenger Club as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to provide year-round athletic, recreational and social opportunities for children and young adults with physical, developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. Over the past 10 years CCCC has grown from a handful of participants to what is now an organization that has provided opportunities to over 400 families throughout Cape Cod and parts of Southeastern MA. Through all of this growth they still remain a volunteer run organization and provide social, recreational and athletic activities free of charge. The Challenger Club receives no federal, state, or social service agency funds. The organization is operated solely with funds derived from grant-writing, fundraising and charitable donations.
